Event 1. Dye Creek Preserve Nature Hike
Saturday, March 20, 2010, 10:00 AM
Lace up your hiking boots and join an expert from The Nature Conservancy for a
strenuous six to seven-mile hike on this beautiful 37,000-acre nature preserve.
Located in the foothills below Lassen Peak, the preserve is bisected dramatically
by Dye Creek Canyon. This preserve is an expansive landscape of blue oak
woodlands, volcanic buttes, and rolling fields. A narrow trail through rocky
terrain and multiple creek crossings will greet adventurers. Snacks will be
provided.

Event 2. Try Thai This Event Has Sold Out
Sunday, March 21, 2010, 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM
Chef Pen Boehm, originally from Thailand, invites you to explore unique tastes
and learn the secrets of cooking authentic Thai food. It's not complicated to
make the real thing! Work alongside Pen to prepare three Thai dishes: Thai
Steam Buns (bread dough, chicken or pork, mushrooms, and eggs), Fast
Noodle Stir Fry (meat, vegetables, and rice noodles), and Larb Beef Salad
(beef, cabbage or rice - often served as hors d'oeuvres). Afterwards, enjoy a
delicious lunch from the feast you prepared.

Event 4. Table Mountain Hike
Saturday, April 10, 2010, 8:00 AM
Local native plant experts Jay and Terry Thesken will take you along a little-
known trail on stunning Table Mountain. You'll be treated to some special
scenery and pass two waterfalls as you hike through the valley on your way to
a "secret" mesa! The mountain's flower-carpeted slopes are a prime
destination for native plant enthusiasts, and your guides will point out the
many wildflowers adding color to the landscape. Sturdy hiking shoes are
encouraged for this moderate six-mile hike. Snacks are included. Meet in
Redding to caravan east of Oroville.

Event 5. Parkville History Tour
Sunday, March 21, 2010, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Step back in time to 19th century Parkville, along the Sacramento River east
of Anderson. After visiting Parkville Cemetery with local historian Dottie Smith,
you will tour the DuBose Ranch. The ranch encompasses a more than
100-year-old wood framed house, two dairy barns, a silo, a blacksmith shop, and
an artifact collection. Partake of a lunch buffet while you explore the historic
home and enjoy live fiddle music. Later, enjoy a one-mile hike along Bear Creek
to view the salmon spawning grounds. To complete this amazing day, enjoy a 30
minute stagecoach ride through the ranch.

Event 6. Ride the Trails on Hathaway Ranch
Saturday, April 17, 2010, 10:00 AM
Experience the beautiful Hathaway Ranch in Oak Run as it's meant to be - on the
back of your own horse. The trails and roads provide stupendous views and great
footing. When you break for lunch, your hosts will discuss the ranch's grazing
practices and tell you all about their business, Hat Creek Grown. Stretch those
legs and hunker down under the nearest oak tree with a deluxe picnic lunch,
with your horse tied contentedly nearby. Hathaway Ranch is private property.

Event 7. New Clairvaux Abbey's Tour and Wine Tasting

The Trappist monks of New Clairvaux Abbey bring together the traditions of
European grape growing and winemaking with the skilled hands of fifth
generationwinemaker Aimee Sunseri. During this exclusive tour, learn about
the monastery and its connection with Peter Lassen and Leland Stanford, and
tour both the Sacred Stones Chapter House project and the winery. Complete
the day by tasting special wines paired with delicious hors d'oeuvres. Don't wait

Event 8. All About Birding

Enjoy a spring day on Fenwood Ranch near Anderson and learn to identify birds
you may seein your backyard. This event is intended for all ages who want to
learn the basics of birding - types of beaks, basic bird parts and common terms.
Experienced birders will enjoy the opportunity to observe in an area that is
normally closed to the public. Wintu Audubon president and experienced birder
Bill Oliver will help identify the many birds and waterfowl along the Sacramento
River and in the oak woodlands. A picnic lunch is included. Fenwood Ranch is
private property. Shasta Land Trust has obtained special permission to hold
these events.

Event 9. North Redding Restoration Projects
Saturday, April 24, 2010, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Since it's founding in 1996, Shasta Watersheds Action Group (SWAG) has
restored almost 2 miles of stream for salmonid habitat and many miles of trails.
Much of this work has been along Sulphur Creek near Turtle Bay. Meet John
McCullah, a SWAG founder and well-known watershed management and
erosion control expert, for a tour and explanation of the Sulphur Creek projects
that have been completed or are in developmental stages. Lunch is included.
Meet at the Sundial Bridge.

Event 10. Happy Trails! on Fenwood Ranch
Saturday, May 1, 2010, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
They say it can't be done - horses and mountain bikes at the same event. Well,
your hosts believe it's possible! Welcome to the Shasta Land Trust bike and
horse ride/picnic. Explore separate trails as you ride your horse or bike on
scenic Fenwood Ranch rangeland, made for just cruising along. Check out the
fantastic Sacramento River views. Afterwards, settle in for a hearty picnic
and a lively discussion about how all can work together to improve the
enjoyment of our trails. Fenwood Ranch is private property. Shasta Land
Trust has obtained special permission to hold this event.

Event 11. Energy Sipping Homes Tour
Sunday, May 16, 2010, 10:00 AM
Whether you are planning increased energy efficiency or only interested in
learning more, this is the party for you. Visit two homes with different
approaches to energy efficiency. The Bush home uses a geodesic dome design
and a cooling system based on capturing the cool air eight feet below ground.
The Wilkinson-O'Mara home captures solar energy in three different ways and
is tied to the grid to take advantage of state and federal incentives. After the
tour, relax in the garden with a spring time lunch.

Event 12. Driving Tour of Cow Creek Ranch
Saturday, May 22, 2010, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Take an insider's tour of Cow Creek Ranch in Whitmore, site of Shasta Land
Trust's newest conservation easement, with executive director Ben Miles
and former director Kathleen Gilman. Ben will share some of his favorite
sites on this 4-wheel-drive tour. You'll see oak savannah, narrow canyons,
chaparral and ponderosa pine forests. Break for a picnic lunch at the stunning
overlook of south Cow Creek Valley, and learn how the Trust's conservation
easement preserved this working ranch forever. Cow Creek Ranch is private
property. Shasta Land Trust has obtained special permission to hold this event.

Event 13. Springtime Walk in the Forest

Join Gary Hendrix of the Phillips Bros. Mill in Oak Run for a three-mile walking
tour of the 1,000-acre forest that sustains the Phillips Mill and provides a
multitude of benefits to our region. Learn about carbon sequestration,
sustainable forestry practices and how the Pacific Forest Trust monitors its
conservation easement. Tour forestland to see the tree plantation and the
results of biomass thinning. Spend time in the old growth watershed and enjoy
the wildflowers with mid-morning snacks.

Event 14. Life "Off the Grid" This Event Has Sold Out
Saturday, June 5, 2010, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Visit the completely "off the grid" ridge-top home of Richard and Tammy Douse.
See exactly what it is like to be dependent on the sun for electricity, on rain for
your domestic water, and how these two systems work together. You will tour
the gardens on the ridge and those in the secret valley to see how the sun helps
irrigate them, and take a leisurely stroll through land that has been kept in its
natural state. After all that, you'll probably be ready for lunch, which will be
prepared in a solar oven, and a glass of wine or a cold beer as you sit and enjoy
the view from your hosts' home, "Rocky Top."

Event 16. Hathaway Stargazing Campout
Saturday and Sunday, August 14 & 15, 2010, 5:00 PM to 10:00 AM
Here's a great party for camping enthusiasts! Experience a north state summer
night on the Swede Creek Plains of the Hathaway Ranch in Oak Run, where you'll
find an amazing open sky. At the edge of the plains, we'll set up camp and view
spectacular night skies, and probably catch a Perseid meteor shower. After
camping under the stars, you'll wake to a hot breakfast provided by your hosts.
Hathaway Ranch is private property. Shasta Land Trust has obtained special

Event 17. Waffles and Wildflowers on the River This Event Has Sold Out
Saturday, September 11, 2010, 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon
Begin your morning with a short hike on the Sacramento River Trail with David
Fritchle, a native plant expert who will highlight wildflowers and native plants.
Afterward, enjoy brunch at the home of Gary and Belinda Sanda featuring
sourdough waffles and Greek frittata, tangerine mimosas, bloody marys, coffee,
and tea. After brunch, landscape designer Karen McGrath will discuss native and
Mediterranean garden plants in general terms, and those found in the Sanda
garden.

Event 18. Redding's Secret Treasures II

Back by popular demand! Ben Miles will introduce you to three interesting but
lesser known public lands in our area, suggested by local outdoor enthusiast
Randy Smith. Your trip starts at the Diestelhorst trailhead and will begin by
exploring the Yankee John Mine on 240 acres of BLM land. Then it's on to the
Clear Creek Trail, BLM's newest trail in our area. The final destination is Paynes
Creek, where you'll settle in for a picnic lunch. Meet at Diestlehorst trailhead.
