Wildways 2012 Events:
You will find below complete descriptions of all the events in the Wildways 2012 series. Your first chance to buy tickets to these events is at the Wildways Kickoff on February 25th, so buy your tickets to the Kickoff soon (Kickoff tickets go on sale 9am, February 6th).
Following the Kickoff on 2/25, any remaining unsold tickets to the individual Wildways events listed below will go on sale on this website, starting at 9am on February 27th.
Once these ticket sales go live on 2/27, you can purchase tickets to an individual event, by clicking the title of the event at the top of the description.

1. New Clairvaux Tour and Wine Tasting - Sunday, March 25, 2012, 11 am to 2 pm
The Trappist Monks of New Clairvaux Abbey have brought together the traditions of European grape growing and winemaking in the skilled hands of fifth generation winemaker Aimee Sunseri. During this exclusive tour, you will learn about the monastery and its connection with Peter Lassen and Leland Stanford, hear the bells and chanting by the monks, and tour the new ‘Sacred Stones Project' as well as the winery. Your day will conclude with a tasting of special wines, paired with delicious hors d'oeuvres.

2. Redding’s Secret Treasures IV - Saturday, April 7, 2012, 8 am to noon.
Back for its fourth consecutive year, this event introduces you to three lesser-known public lands in our area. This year, local outdoor and restoration enthusiast Randy Smith is back to lead this event that he created for our Wildways series! Your tour centers on public lands along the Sacramento River, as Randy and Judy introduce you to a reborn Henderson Open Space, as well as Riverland Park and the Anderson River Park Area of Special Management. Snacks will be provided.

3. An Italian Evening - Sunday, April 15, 2012, 6 pm to 9 pm
Join your friends at the new Anderson restaurant, Clarizio’s Antipasti and Deli, for an authentic Italian meal prepared by Chef Josh Lozoya, formerly of Rivers Restaurant. Your meal will include a freshly-made salad, entrée, dessert, and a glass of wine. Italian music and singing will round out this evening of food, fun, and friendship that is not to be missed!

4. Home, Home on the Range - Saturday, April 21, 2012, 6 pm to 9 pm
Bring your family and friends to the beautiful Hathaway Ranch for a campfire sing-along hosted by “The Music Group” (est. 1971 in Redding). Songbooks will be provided along with campfire dinner fare. Juice and hot chocolate are included, but bring your own wine or beer. Let’s laugh and sing together!

5. Dinner Party in a Dome - Saturday, May 5, 2012, 6 pm to 9 pm
Enjoy a garden setting for a four-course dinner with a menu of dishes from the Dining at Great American Lodges cookbook. Dinner will be accompanied by a selection of wines. Enhancing this wonderful evening, family members will take you on a tour of this unique, owner-built, energy efficient geodesic dome home. The home’s rural location features many large native black oaks along with planted landscaping and views of Mt. Lassen.

6. Tour Hatchet Ridge Wind Farm - Saturday, May 12, 2012, 10 am to 2 pm
This is your chance to learn more about those new wind turbines on our horizon. Officials from Pattern Energy will offer a behind-the-scenes tour of the 44 wind turbines that generate electricity at the site near Burney and answer your questions about the project, which produces the annual energy equivalent of 44,000 California homes. A delicious box lunch will be provided after the tour at a scenic site nearby.

7. Mountain Biking, Ranch Style - Saturday, May 19, 2012, 10 am to 1:30 pm
Explore the vast expanses of the Cow Creek Ranch (protected by an SLT conservation easement) from the comfort of your two-wheeler! This event is the perfect way to get acquainted with the 5,000 acre ranch’s wide-open spaces. You’ll see the creeks and streams, open oak woodlands, and many of the unique features of this ranch on your ride, and you’ll be treated to a picnic lunch at a beautiful overlook above South Cow Creek. It will be a strenuous ride, so bring your helmet and your sense of adventure!

8. “French” Polynesia Luau in the Woods - Saturday, June 2, 2012, 6 pm to 9 pm
Enjoy a luau dinner near French Gulch, with music by the California Evening Trio. The feast will be served at Jason and Serena Hull’s Clear Creek Event Center, a magical pavilion in the woods accessed by a swinging bridge. The cooking fires will be blazing and the delicious aroma of roasting pig will be in the air. Enjoy a glass of wine from the no-host bar, and settle down for a delightful evening. And who knows, maybe you’ll want to push back the tables for a little dancing after dinner. Children are welcome.

9. An Afternoon at the Wilsey Place - Saturday, June 9, 2012, 1 pm to 5 pm
Come explore a beautiful, historic homestead on the Rickert Brothers Ranch, SLT’s newest conservation easement property. Tour evidence of the Terry Mill Flume, which crossed Little Cow Creek nearby, learn about Shasta County life in the early 20th century, and listen to readings from the autobiography of a man who grew up at the site. There will be moderate hiking involved, and a picnic along the creek will be provided.

10. If These Walls Could Talk… - Wednesday, June 13, 2012, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Enjoy an exclusive tour of the past, present and future of the Cascade Theatre. Explore the stage, green room, loge, and projection and sound booths. Hear from experts that were there in the beginning of the recent restoration period, and who have knowledge about the earliest performances in the Theatre. Learn about the latest technological installations and what is planned for the future. Your tour concludes with tasty hors d’oeuvres in the upstairs lounge where you can visit with the speakers, hosts, and volunteers.

11. Camping and Caving at Lava Beds - Saturday, July 14, 2012, noon, to Sunday, July 15, 3 pm
Enjoy this campout and tour of the out-of-the-way Lava Beds National Monument near Tule Lake. You and your family can look forward to a guided tour of the lava tube caves, a visit to Captain Jack’s Stronghold, a campfire, and taking part in the park’s evening program. Bring a sack lunch for Saturday. Dinner Saturday night, and breakfast and lunch Sunday will be provided. Bring your sense of adventure for this great exploration of one northern California’s most intriguing landscapes!

12. Stargazing Campout at Hathaway - Saturday, Aug 11, 2012, 5 pm, to Sunday Aug 12, noon
Experience the wide open spaces of the Swede Creek Plains on this fifth annual overnight event on the Hathaway Ranch near Oak Run. With the city lights far away, the Perseid Meteor Shower will streak across the dark skies above our primitive campsite. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to camp in the center of this 6,600-acre protected property. You'll enjoy your own picnic dinner as you settle in to the campsite and the event's hosts will prepare a hot breakfast on Sunday morning. Great event for families!

13. Batty for Bats - Saturday, August 25, 2012, 6 pm to 9 pm
Be part of an intimate bat experience with Yolo Basin Foundation’s bat expert Corky Quirk. Get an up-close look at some live bats as you learn about the natural history and biology of these fascinating critters. As the sun sets, your private party will enjoy wine, hot chocolate, and other goodies at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area as you await the spectacular fly-out of hundreds of thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats. Every year, the Foundation hosts several of these excursions, and it is one of their most popular events!

14. Cooking Up Pasta with Doni - Saturday, September 8, 2012, 4 pm to 8 pm
Learn the secrets to delicious pasta made from scratch during this hands-on cooking class with Doni Chamberlain-Greenberg in her newly remodeled Garden Tract kitchen. Try your hand at creating fettuccini and ravioli dishes, then conclude the day with a Tuscan meal featuring your own creations and accompanied by salad, dessert, and wines provided by Doni.

15. An Evening in Paradise – Food, Fun and Flair! - Saturday, September 29, 2012, 5 pm to

It’s a musical night to remember at beautiful Lema Ranch, home of The McConnell Foundation. Enjoy a fall evening of live music featuring big band jazz sounds, Brazilian music, and your favorite dance tunes by The Usual Suspects, led by Jeff Jones. Relax near the idyllic Secluded Pond on Lema Ranch while enjoying dinner in this most magical setting. Invite your friends, as patio tables seat 6 to 8. 16. Bits and Bites on the River Trail - Saturday, October 6, 2012, 9 am to noon
Take a stroll along the River Trail in the Lake Redding area and visit four homes of SLT members. Enjoy a sampling of appetizers from around the world at each stop, and hear presentations on topics of local interest such as the history of local bridges, the development of the river trail, and efforts to protect native vegetation. The event will begin at the Senior Citizens Center parking lot, and easy walking will commence from there.

17. Family Photos on Hathaway Ranch! - Saturday, October 6 & Saturday, October 13: 9:30-10:30 a.m. and 10:45-11:45 a.m. (each day)
This is your chance for a professional quality photo session for you and your family in a beautiful setting on the Hathaway Ranch. Local photographer Rob Payton has been doing senior portraits, wedding photography, and familyportraits for 35 years. Each group or individual will have an hour with Rob and will receive a disk of selected and touched-up images along with all rights for unlimited reproduction. This is a perfect opportunity to get your holiday card photo!

19. Halloween at Samwell Cave - Saturday, October 27, 2012, 10 am to 3 pm
Join the Hull and Bush families on a subterranean scavenger hunt & tour of Samwell Cave, located on the north end of the McCloud arm of Shasta Lake. You will start with a short hike to the cave entrance and the scavenger hunt will include prizes around the cave in this Halloween-themed event. This event promises to be fun for all ages. 21. The Art of Candy Making - Saturday, December 8, 2012, 1 pm to 4 pm
Learn to make three types of delicious candy: fudge, caramels, and toffee. You’ll enjoy tips such as the factors that affect the taste and texture of your candy, how to select the best ingredients, and the best way to use a candy thermometer. You’ll also go home with samples of each type as well as the recipes. During your lesson, enjoy hot cider, hot cocoa, and snacks.

22. Tour de-Lights! - Friday, December 14, 2012, 6 pm to 9 pm
