Tammy and her husband Richard have been Shasta Land Trust members since 2002, when they were excited to discover a local land conservation organization.  They began attending Wildways events, then the kickoff parties as well, and found that they really enjoyed the group of people that they were getting to know and seeing time after time at events.  As active members they have been a great asset to this organization, contributing their insight and enthusiasm to everything that they are involved in.

Tammy began volunteering for Shasta Land Trust in 2008 when she was invited to be a member of the food committee for the 2009 Wildways kickoff party.  She headed the same committee for the 2010 kickoff party with great success.  Tammy and Richard are becoming even more involved in the Wildways events this year by hosting an event for the first time.  The June 5 "Life ‘Off the Grid'" event featuring a tour of their completely off-grid home, known as Rocky Top, that relies on rainwater collection, wells, and solar energy sold out at the kickoff party this year and is anticipated to be a great success.  Tammy enjoys working on committees and projects with other members.  She expresses the opinion that "working with other member is a delight as they all bring such great ideas, suggestions, and show up when they say they will!"

Tammy is a long time Shasta County resident and spent 20 years working for the Shasta County Office of Education.  She retired in 2004 as their Manager of Food and Nutrition Services.  She fills her retirement time with hobbies such as cooking, photography, dancing, traveling, and boating, as well as her volunteer activities at Shasta Land Trust and beyond.  Tammy has helped with the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days campaign for the last 20 years, and is very involved in the Redding branch of AAUW.  She has been involved in the AAUW Redding Branch, Inc.'s Home Tour and Art Show, which raises scholarship funds and provides educational opportunities for girls, since 1994, coordinates speakers for the AAUW Women in Math and Science Conference for middle school girls, and served as president of the Redding chapter of AAUW in the past.  She was selected as Woman of Achievement in 2006 for her commitment to AAUW.  Tammy's dedication to so many aspects of her community makes her a truly amazing person.  Shasta Land Trust is proud to have her as a member and volunteer, and thanks her profusely for all her hard work.

Tammy's philosophy toward her volunteer work is simple and powerful.  "Through education you can change the world.  If you believe in something, you should support it.  You can do more than you think you can, so help where you can with the talents you have."
