The Art of Fly Fishing and a Sunset Meal at Clover Creek Preserve


This event combines three things we love: city parks, the North State's world class fisheries and watersheds, and delicious food by Moonstone Bistro. Join us at Redding's newest park facility, The Shasta Trinity Fly Fishers new Clubhouse that serves as a vital center to teach the art of fly tying and fishing, and for stewardship of waterways and wildlife. You will have a chance to learn the about local fly fishing, with a number of activities and resources for you and your kids, for fly anglers of all ability levels. The Clover Creek Preserve is a beautiful location, once slated for a major subdivision, it was protected in 2005 by City of Redding and converted to open space with ponds for water storage as a solution to downstream flooding along Clover Creek. The scenic area offers views of the creek and surrounding mountains, a 4-acre lake and ponds, and a paved 1.5-mile loop trail, and provides a peaceful respite for surrounding neighbors and visitors. Guests will enjoy fly fishing activities and information, a family bike ride if you like, and delicious food, beer and wine while watching the sunset.

Before the show, enjoy a wonderful appetizer spread served with local craft beer and wine and have a chance to meet and socialize with new and long-time supporters of the Land Trust and learn about our recent progress and direction in a short presentation by our Board. This is a very special evening at the Riverfront Playhouse with an innovative production of the popular Twelve Angry Men. Its examination of the jury system is as valid as ever, and may be even more important today when media sensationalism has such a strong effect on public perceptions. This great story, adapted to film in 1957, is said to have been a pet project of Henry Fonda and was nominated for three Academy Awards. All food and drinks included in the ticket price.

Jackie Park-Burris is excited to show guests the farm and facilities, where she will share stories about bee culture, honey production, and challenges from diseases and threats to agriculture. Enjoy lunch in a bee-inspired home filled with countless art pieces showcasing bees. Next, travel to an agricultural field to observe work in progress and have a chance to see queen bees. Co-owner Gary Hendrix will share the treasures of this historic local mill which includes the saw mill, production shop, operating steam boilers, steam engines, and collection of 1920's tractors. The day includes an optional short forest tour to enjoy the beauty of the location and learn more about the sustainable forestry practices used for 100 years. Afterwards, enjoy lunch at the mill, served with beer, wine and live local music.

Join us for this hike along the course of Dye Creek itself, which cuts through a pristine setting of volcanic buttes, hills and extensive blue oak woodlands, before flowing into the Sacramento River. Expect spectacular views and wildflowers in bloom, occasional wildlife sightings, such as deer, golden eagles and woodpeckers. Located in the foothills below Lassen Peak, this 37,000 acre preserve has been protected by the Nature Conservancy since 1988. Guests will be served a delicious lunch on the preserve.

Cowboy Ken Hartman will lead riders across the ranch and high atop the bluff where you will experience a breathtaking view of grasslands and surrounding mountains. This Ranch includes 600 acres of vernal pools, Blue Oak woodlands, three major creeks including Little Cow Creek, and has been protected by the Shasta Land Trust since 2010. You and your horse will be crossing creeks on this trip. BYOH – bring your own horse and riding gear. We will serve you and your companions a delicious barbeque lunch after the ride.
