People from all over the country are anticipating the big solar eclipse on Monday. Rather than catching this phenomena from an office window or outside your front door, here are two fun places to go for a viewing party in our area!

Whiskeytown Lake

Whiskeytown National Recreational Area, in partnership with the Shasta Astronomy Club will hold a partial solar eclipse viewing party that lasts from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Oak Bottom boat launch parking lot. Telescopes will be available to look at the eclipse.

Shasta Dam

Another location to view the partial solar eclipse is at the Shasta Dam. This viewing party is put on by the The Bureau of Reclamation from 9 a.m. to Noon. Viewing glasses will be given out in a first come first served basis.

 

The eclipse will begin around 9:15 AM in the North State - when the moon first starts to pass between the sun and the Earth, and will reach maximum eclipse around 10:20 AM.
