Tunnel Reservoir Conservation Easement

We’re excited to announce the permanent protection of 901 acres of scenic forest, river, and meadow habitat in the Pit River region is protected forever! This land of environmentally important natural resources supports wildlife, fisheries, Tribal heritage, and public recreation.

The property is within the ancestral lands of the Madesi Band of the Pit River Tribe. Native plants of Tribal importance used to make art, medicine, and basketry, are conserved within the property, supporting the preservation of culturally important natural resources.

The property offers multiple recreation opportunities available to the public, including the Madesi River Access Campground, fishing, whitewater rafting, and day use sites to picnic and nature watch.

The vital aquatic resources and surrounding lands of the property provide important foraging, breeding, and habitat for native wildlife and special status species including the northwestern pond turtle and sculpin. Bald eagles, ospreys, peregrine falcons, and migratory deer in their winter ranges also inhabit the conserved lands.

We are thankful for the lasting conservation of these lands within the Pit River watershed. These protected lands join conserved properties along essential aquatic corridors that help secure an environmentally sustainable future for our community and local ecosystems.
